As you all know backing up data is a very important thing.Main purpose is to protect your data from getting corrupted or lost.If you look at your data carefully , you can divide them into two types, retreivable data and non-retreivable data.
Retreivable data is something like movies, music, html pages, games etc which you can get somehow from the internet or from cd/dvd , from your friend etc.I feel this sort of data is not that important to backup incase you are short of storage in your backup device etc.The non-retreivable data is what i want to bring your attention to.Data such as digital pics of some occasion(birthday, anniversary, trips etc),your work data, school projects, programming code(though it can be done again, im sure its difficult to do so). This data *CANNOT* be created again.Especially when it comes to digital pics definetly NO.
I'm sure you will be totally dissapointed incase you loose such sensitive data, im sure they mean a lot to you personally. When it comes to backing up pictures i always keep backup them online. For pics you could use kodakgallery . Quite a good service. It can be used as a backup as well as to share pictures with your friends and family.
Talking about other data like work stuff etc these can be backed up online as well. There are a lot of free services which provide upto 10gb of backup for free.A usb hdd should also be considered for backup.Since you will be using the usb hdd only for backing up.i suggest buying a normal internal hdd and then buying a hdd casing, this will make it a lot more cheaper in terms of price. I have my data backed up in multiple drives just because i'm so protective about it.
I know what it feels like when you loose data!!Thats one of my main reasons for writing this post.So please take this seriously.Take care.
