There are four new updates to look out for

1)Fedora 9
Fedora has recently released their new OS. FEDORA 9 .I've always liked Fedora they come up with really good stuff.Fedora 9 was released yesterday and there's a lot of hype about it on the internet. If your a linux freak and never tried Fedora. Well you surely could give it a shot through vmware or virtualbox. The latest fedora features GNOME 2.22 , an improved network manager,Live USB support and a lot more .. 2)AVG 8.0
AVG which i personally feel is one of the best when it comes to security.Their products are free(Some of them), very light, very secure and most of all if you notice they constantly have updates which ensures that your AVG is always up to date and is immune to all the latest viruses.I'm not saying that other security products are bad, i just found this one really good and more than sufficient for me.Their latest version 8.0 has some really cool features like :
* Safe Search. AVG scans Google, Yahoo! & MSN search results in real-time as you search and places safety ratings next to each link.
* Safe Surf. AVG scans each and every Web site and Web link within a Web site before you open them to ensure they are safe.
* Safe Link Scan. AVG scans every Web link you come across, whether in e-mails, documents or instant messages, no matter the source, before you open them to ensure you are protected in advance 100% of the time.
* Safe Favorites & Bookmark Scan. AVG scans all your favorite and bookmarked sites before you open them to ensure they are safe.
* Safe URL Scan. If you type your favorite site address (URL) into your browser, AVG will scan the contents of the site before you open it to ensure it is safe.
* Safe Download Scan: AVG will scan all new applications you want to install as well as all Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other documents and music, videos and pictures to ensure they are safe before you download them.
* Safety Ratings. Site specific safety details are displayed by simply hovering over the safety icons.

I think stuff liek Safe URL Scan,Safe Download Scan is superb really innovative..For more info go HERE

These guys have released their new versions too.Firefox 3 looking really good also bundled up with ubuntu hardy heron the latest ubuntu distro.Features like One-click site info ,malware protection, antivirus integration etc makes firefox look more than just a browser, its like you have an OS in there. It's improved drastically in terms of security and i'm personally a big fan of firefox plugins they make firefox so much more powerful. For more info go HERE

4)OpenOffice 3.0
Open Office has been THE BEST open source office software suite. Its a great tool and im so glad that you get so much from this suite and all for FREE.I mean it has so much support and their whole community is so cool that they work together really hard to bring up this wonderful software.Open office is pretty popular now a days its main bonus is that its free . Open office 3 has already been installed as updates for ubuntu machines. The 3.0 has a totally new look and a hell lot of new features and has support for the docx format and this time they got the MAC support too.Open office 3.0 is sitll in its beta stage , so its not recommended for production use. Four perfect choices, Prashanth!

We think very much alike, you and I.

The reason I subscribed to your blog here is because I have had to retire from a 20-years-long IT career during which I became one of those people that others would come to for ideas. That was because I had many connections inside the industry and always kept on the cutting edge of development -- both hardware and software [lots of reading as you know!].

Retirement has cut me off from all of those daily contacts, so I hope you don't mind that I am using you to keep myself as up-to-date as I can.

Thank you for the service this blog provides, both for me and on behalf of your many other readers!

Hi mate,

Its Moto here from IBF, hey i tried AVG 8..i have to agree with you, it offers a lot.am sure its in par with the paid AV's..one thing i would let you know, its not as light as the old version 7.5, this one is a resource hog.but its a nice AV...and yaa, they have worked on its GUI which makes it a complete security package.

hi moto,
Just saw the memory usage and yea it is a bit on the higher side compared to their older versions.I guess its required since they have a hell lot of features inbuilt.I specifically like that Safe Search Feature i think it totally rocks!!Hopefully will be able to write about it soon!!
Thanks,
Prash
