How To Configure(Setup) Or Change Your DNS servers(Opendns) In Windows

This is a small tutorial to help you configure DNS servers in Windows.Typically ISP's DNS servers are very slow primarily because they are overloaded and cannot handle so many requests.opendns a DNS service has some really good DNS servers which are faster,more secure and definetly more reliable..The most important being FASTER.So this tutorial will help you change your DNS server from your ISP's DNS servers to OPENDNS servers.
Firstly, so that you know, opendns server ips are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 .. typically two server ips are given,even from your isp.The first one is called Primary DNS server and the second is called Secondary DNS server.
OK, now on to the procedure..Its simple!!

Step 1 : Click on The Start Button and Click On Control Panel

Step 2 : Then Click on Network Connections

Step 3 : Then Right CLick on Your Network Connection you use to connect to the internet and click on Properties.If its a wired LAN it would be Local Area Connection , if its a wireless LAN it would be called Wireless Network Connection.


Step 4 : Then Select Internet Protocol(tcp/ipv4) and click on Properties

Step 5 : Then Select "Use the following DNS server addresses : " and enter Preffered DNS server as 208.67.222.222 and Alternate DNS servers as 208.67.220.220

Step 6 : Then Click on OK and close all windows

Thats it, your done, you computer should start using OpenDns servers From now for DNS requests.

Those screen shots and instructions are very well done. Another reason for using opendns DNS servers is they provide content blocking for free. So if you have teenagers or anyone else using your PC and you do not wish for them to view ALL the internet has to offer you can block which ever type of content you wish. Whether it is sports, social networking, adult. Almost anything. OpenDNS has a very large list you can choose from. Another step you should not forget though, is to ensure the other users of your PC do not have administrative privileges. If they did then they could simply reverse the DNS addition in Network settings. I have made a point and click instruction video on how to block content. In BSNL Broadband Modem UT300R2U there is DNS Server configuration under Advanced Setup. How this setup is different from the TCP/IP setup shown above. Which is fater ? Will I have the same effect in using the DNS servers in either of the setup ?

it is the same effect.. if you change it in the router.. any other pc connected to the router would use OPENDNS automatically..
