I have said this many times already in the post, but this has a little additional information.Im sure you all know that it is important to change your admin password of your modem.Typically the admin password of almost all modems is admin itself.This is very dangerous as hackers can access your modem through this either via telnet or via http.So its very important ot change admin password.Now, apart from this, many routers have additional users which are "support" and "user".According to the router , these are the definitions of the privileges of the three user accounts
Now looking at this, you might think that "user" and "support" accounts are almost a waste, as all that can be done through these accounts is just viewing the settings NOT changing them.BUT there's a little twist here, these accounts (user and support) do behave like what they claim only via http.But when these accounts are used via telnet , you would notice that "user" and "support" have admin privileges, i.e. they can manipulate , change configuration,open ports,reset passwords and what not with your router.So it is very important to Change the passwords of all three accounts which are "admin","user" and "support".Here's how you go about doing it.
Default ids and passwords :
Username : admin and Password : admin
Username : user and Password : user
Username : support and Password : support
To Change Admin Password
Step 1 : Go to http://192.168.1.1 enter username and password as admin
Step 2 : Go to Management->Access Control->Passwords
Step 3 : Select Username as admin
Step 4 : Enter Old password as admin( got from the default ids and passwords list above)
Step 5 : Enter new desired password
Step 6 : Click on Save/apply and reboot router
NOTE: Follow the same steps for "user" and "support" by selecting the username as "user" and "support" in Step 3 .
