Google Recently launched its Video Chat Service Finally!!!I think that was what Google Chat was missing all this while.I recently had a chance to try out google video chat and although there was a bit of lag in the video , everything else was just perfect. Here and there , there were a few glitches , which i think is pretty common for most video chat services. The audio conversation works pretty fine, no problems there. On the whole the video chat service is pretty good and all google fans im sure would be pretty happy to use this service.Installation was quite simple, There is not much of an installation actually.Google would ask you to install a small plugin which works with most of today's browsers.Ofcourse chrome is included :D.
So all you do is install the plugin which doesnt take more than a minute to install, then reboot your browser and your all set to video chat.No drivers, nothing required.Google video chat automatically recognized my webcam and i was able to video chat instantly. The video chat doesnt seem to be peer to peer, it goes through the google servers.Clarity wise its just picture perfect , i wasnt expecting anything more.I believe google video chat uses the H.264 format for its video transmissions.I really like the concept of embedding all this in the GMAIL page itself , i mean it makes life so easy . The GMAIL page itself is like a major software, you can control everything with that.Thats the power of AJAX i guess!!NO software , nothing required!!
So all in all , its not a bad service, but i do hope the few glitches here and there are sorted out soon!!!For more information on google video chat CLICK HERE.
