It was not even 2-3 years back when Internet Explorer was virtually the only browser available . I mean firefox, safari, opera etc were all there but IE somehow seemed to always dominate the browser market share . They were way ahead of firefox and other browsers . More than 80% i guess . But things have started to change a LOT lately . Internet explorer is slowly loosing its shine , giving way to Mozilla Firefox and Chrome too starting to rise up with a 1% market share . But clearly the web browser which is doing this best lately has been mozilla firefox.
There are many reasons why mozilla firefox is doing so well lately!!Firstly the fact that mozilla truly rocks especially when it comes to firefox add ons which is one of the most popular reasons for firefox making one browser do almost anything!!Another reason i feel is because day by day you find a lot of users moving to linux especially distros like ubuntu, fedora etc . Now all these operating systems have Mozilla Firefox installed by default . So that ends up being the default browser to use . So shifting from windows completely takes of IE . Thats one of the drawbacks of IE , i mean its meant for windows although it is possible to run it via WINE.
But most of the linux users who run IE through WINE is probably doing it for testing purposes(web developers) or maybe for 1 or 2 websites which require IE . So thats probably around 1% or even less who use IE in linux . Google Chrome has started to do well too. One of the obvious reasons being that whatever Google Develops is Cool!!I mean all their services has had a lot of expecations and anticipations whenever they have been released . So Chrome too has been doing really good and i feel their market share would improve even more when they release an Official Linux Version of google chrome although it is possible via WINE or other ways , its still not the best and stable way to go about it!!

Now looking at a few statistics - IE's market share dropped from 69.7% to 68.1% in just 1 month i.e. november to december. Now most of this loss of IE has been Gain For Mozilla . Firefox climbing to about 22% . Also Google Chrome crossing the 1% mark recently . I think google chrome needs more time , they have a long way to go . Their first version was very basic and light , they would need to improve on that for sure!!Opera though doesnt seem to be catching up as it still continues to remain 0.7% .
So Will IE 8 change things for the better for IE? Well i dont think so...So as of now its bad times for IE and some really nice moments for Mozilla Firefox , they're catching up really fast!!!Lets hope we get a new winner soon!!! :)
