This tutorial is for all bsnl users . BSNL has this new feature which alerts you immediately as soon as you exceed the limit . But the problem is this email goes to your @bsnl.in email account . Which , lets be frank , nobody uses :) . I mean 5mb of mail storage is just too much to handle :) . So this tutorial would help you get all your @bsnl.in emails go to gmail account therefore you dont need to even look at the @bsnl.in email account . Most of us check your gmail accounts daily , so you can be alerted as soon as you exceed your broadband usage limit for the month. So here's how you set it up :
Firstly, here's how the email sent by the BSNL customer care regarding your excess usage looks :
Now here's how you configure GMAIL to fetch all your @bsnl.in emails , so you will be alerted when you exceed your bsnl broadband limit in gmail itself:
Step 1 : Login To Gmail
Step 2 : Click on Settings(top right)
Step 3 : Click on ACCOUNTS
Step 4 : Now click on Add A Mail Account of your own
Step 5 : Another window should now popup
Step 6 : enter your bsnl email address here. for example : yourusername@bsnl.in
Step 7 : Now for Username enter your email address again. Note : YOu need to insert the @bsnl.in there as well
Step 8 : Enter your bsnl password , in the password field. NOTE: THe bsnl password is usually by default password itself
Step 9 : Leave the POP Server as it is , by default it is set to mail.bsnl.in on port 110 which is correct
Step 10 : Ensure that "USE SSL" is unchecked. You dont need that.Always better to leave a copy of email in bsnl. Also better to label incoming mail.Uncheck Archiving so you get the emails in your inbox . View the screenshot below to see the settings
Step 11 : Now Click on Add Account
Step 12 : Now you should see a message similar to this . Select NO to the question asked. As you wont require to send email using the @bsnl.in account. Then click on FINISH.
Step 13 : So the next time you get any email on your @bsnl.in account including the alert when you exceed the limit , it would come to your gmail account. Like shown in the screenshot below.
NOTE: To test if your current settings work , you could send an email to your @bsnl.in account and see if it reaches your gmail account . It may take a few minutes ( not that fast ) but it comes to your mailbox at the end..
