I had always been looking for a good application in ubuntu which would alert me whenever i get any emails through my gmail account . Practically all my emails come to my gmail account . Emails from all email ids are forwarded to my gmail account , so in the end , i just have to view this one page to get all my emails . Hence it would be really useful for me to get alerted whenever i get new email in my gmail account. So here's how you seutp CHECKGMAIL in Ubuntu :

Step 1 : Go to the Terminal(Applications->Accessories->Terminal) and type sudo apt-get install checkgmail

Step 2 : This will install checkgmail in ubuntu
Step 3 : Now Launch CheckGmail by going to Applications->Internet->CheckGmail
Step 4 : Now you should see a page similar to this

Step 5 : Enter your gmail username and password,you can set the time interval of checking email , the default time is 2 minutes.
Step 6 : Then click on OK . Thats it , your done . CheckGmail should be working.

hmm.. check your firewall , it maybe blocking it, have you entered the correct username and password.. with/without @gmail.com
