This tutorial would help you to auto login a user in ubuntu , this can be very useful incase you want to avoid the login screen . Also if you run a headless machine without a keyboard and mouse , this can be of help as you wouldnt need to enter the username and password to login as certain services run only after login. So here's how you do it :

Step 1 : Go to System->Administration->Login Window
Step 2 : Now enter the password in the window which pops up
Step 3 : You should now see a page similar to this

Step 4 : Now , go to Security and select Enable Automatic Login
Step 5 : Right under that , enter the username of the account which you wish to login automatically.

Step 6 : Thats it , click on CLOSE and restart your computer and ubuntu should automatically login.
