Dyndns is basically a way to get a FREE domain like myname.dyndns.org, you could also get a paid primary domain like myname.com . Suppose you have dynamic ips like me.Dynamic ips basically mean that whenever you switch on or switch off your router , your ip address changes or it changes automatically every 24 hrs.So today you may get one ip , tomorrow you may get a totally different ip.So it gets very difficult to remember these ip addresses, infact its impossible unless you mug up a new ip address everyday ..I dont think you would want to do that :) .Thats why there are services like dyndns, noip etc which gives you a domain name (either free or primary) .So whenever you type in your domain name (like myname.dyndns.org) it always points to your computer, irrespective of what ip your pc currently haves.
How does this work? Pretty simple. You have to install a software client on your pc.This client will detect any ip changes and immediately inform their servers whenever your ip changes, therefore myname.dyndns.org will always point to your computer. Now some routers like Netgear wifi routers have a dyndns feature inbuilt. This doesnt require any software to be installed in your pc and has its own advantages. So if your wifi router supports dyndns and you use it, why not configure dyndns in your router itself. Its pretty simple!!
Step 1 : Firstly you need to have a dyndns account . Incase you dont have one CLICK HERE to create one
Step 2 : Now login to your wifi router. In my case it is http://192.168.0.1 .This is normally the default ip of a wifi router .Alternatively you could try http://192.168.1.1

Step 3 : Enter the username and password of your router. Some combinations to try are: -
Username - admin Password - admin Username - admin Password - password Username - (blank) Password - password Username - (blank) Password - admin

Step 4 : Once you login, look for the Dynamic Dns tab.Remember this is not the DNS tab, dont get confused. In my case it was under Advanced Setup->Dynamic DNS
Step 5 : Once you are in that page, you should see a page similar to this

Step 6 : Check "Use a Dynamic Dns Service" and enter the following details :
Host Name : This is the host name you would have created with your dyndns account something like http://myname.dyndns.org
User Name : This is the Username of the account you already have or created in Step 1
Password : This is the password for that account
Step 7 : Click On Apply and save/reboot your router if required!!!
