I'll get to the point.. It's very important for you to change the default password of your modem/router..Normally when your ISP gives you a modem/router or you buy one it comes with a default password.. some are plug and play so you don't even need to check the modem/router's configuration...So many ,infact i think almost everybody leaves the default password without changing it..
This is a MAJOR loop hole which hackers can exploit..the default password for modem/router is either admin or password or a blank...And most routers have the functionality to be accessed via telnet or even via the web.. so if i open telnet and type your ip with port 23.. i will have full access to your router and can manipulate a lot of stuff, including your modem settings, router settings, dhcp, keep rebooting it,change password, open ports etc etc etc...
It would be a major problem, could lead to even having your computer being hacked and monitored...Many ISP's like airtel etc supply modem's with remote administration enabled so if i open my browser and type http://(yourip) i have full access to your modem..
So please make sure you secure your modem/router to be on the safe side.. it's quite simple all you need to do is login to your router's configuration page and look for change password and change it to a more secure password.. and also try disabling remote administration..
