Today is the age of wireles!!everything is wireless. .be it laptops, pda, mobile phones,WUSB etc etc.. Everybody has some wifi device or the other.. And wifi routers are very common among them.. Almost every house has a wifi router and has laptops or wireless desktops connected to it..
Not many secure their wifi router.. Internet stealing is very common now a days.. People also do illegal stuff using your wifi connection and you will could be in trouble later..also downloading illegal things, hacking etc are usually done using these open wireless networks..By open wireless networks i mean wireless networks which are not secure...All wifi routers come with the option of setting a password for it(also known as WEP)..By default the wireless option is enabled for all wifi routers with no pasword for it.. so usually everybody just plugs it in and uses it..
Thats where the problem lies.. So if you have a wifi router better set a password for it.. as i said earlier its called WEP...This is a must else you are putting yourself into danger..
Setting a WEP is easy..first login to your wifi router(by default 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).. and enter the username and password(default username and password is admin/admin or admin/password or admin/1234 or admin/(blank) ) Once you have logged in.. you should find a tab mentioning wireless settings or wifi settings etc.. There you should find two standard fields :
1)SSID
This is your network name which will be visible to laptops and other wifi devices.. you can put any name as the SSID name..
2)WEP
This is what i am talking about.. a password..Better set a good and strong pasword which you can easily remember...

Then save and reboot and next time whenever anybody tries to acces your network including you...you will need to provide the WEP key...
Generally if you enter it once.. you wont need to keep entering it.. it is normally saved as a profile!!!
Another option which i forgot to mention is to hide your router..this means the SSID name will not pop up on any wifi device. .Hence your wireless network will be invisible and only you know it exists..This isn't necessary a WEP key is good enough!!!
