This will help you reboot your adsl modem or router..Bsnl/Mtnl users can use this to take advantage of the 2-8am free downloading..Just make sure you run this script at 2:10am and 7:50am..the process is very simple.
Firstly, Download the telnet scripting tool from HERE
Extract the zip file and place it in a folder say tst10 in C drive.. so the location of the files you extracted should be in C:\tst10 ..Now create a new text file(*.txt) in notepad and insert the following lines in it..

NOTE: above script is written considering that your modem/router ip address is 192.168.1.1 and username and password is admin. These are default values, incase you have changed them, please change it in the script also.
Save this to a file say script.txt so script.txt should be in C:\tst10 .. Now create a batch file(*.bat) in notepad and enter the following lines

cd c:\tst10
tst10.exe /r:script.txt

Let it be saved as restart.bat .To save it as a BATCH file.. click on file->save as and in the file name type "restart.bat" including the quotes..Place restart.bat in C:\tst10 .. Now go to control panel and go to schedule tasks.. and add this batch file (restart.bat) to run at 2:10am and 7:50am respectively..Thats it your done..

NOTE:Incase you have Huawei or UT300R2U use the appropriate scripts..Incase you have any other modem better to use the Huawei script and edit it a bit..If you notice in the Huawei script .. the command to restart is "system restart" and in the UT300R2U the command is "reboot"..So the command can vary from model to model.. Incase you have any other model please google it and find out the reboot command and replace it accordingly!!

hi i m having sl2_141 modem. how to do in that

Anonymous said... @ July 28, 2008 at 3:57 AM

Im not too sure for your modem, cause it varies from modem to modem.Firstly try all the three different scripts shown.. if that doesnt work.. then in your command prompt type telnet and type open 192.168.1.1 .. and enter admin as username and password.. then look for the help section which should provide you with the restart command.Use that command and modify the above code

Looking at your screenshots, the Command for your modem seems to be "reboot" without the quotes ...so if you type reboot there, you should see your router rebooting...

I have a Huwei MT841. OS: Vista
Above process returns following err from application TST10:-

Wish you could help

Anonymous said... @ January 19, 2009 at 8:24 AM

this is the command to reboot for mt841 .. so modify the script and use this instead of system restart

pppoe set transport 1 disabled\m

also change WAIT "xxx" to WAIT "*"

Ausaf Abidi said... @ January 19, 2009 at 8:28 PM

Hi Prash,
I am unable to Telnet my router from my PC
OS: Vista (have enabled both telnet client, and then later telnet server) Router:Huawei MT841
Telnet is enabled on router also.... port 23 is permitted on my firewall (also tried with my firewall down)
initial connection takes place ..'Login' prompt appears... but the moment I press even one key.... it says connection to host lost.
I have also tried the above script using TS10, however I see my login being sent, and sometime even the password flashes on screen, but soon thereafter the window closes without restarting my router. it all happens in less than 0.5 seconds perhaps.
Could you please help me

Anonymous said... @ January 21, 2009 at 3:23 AM

well this could happen if you try to type a wrong command.. also try resetting your router . have you entered the correct username and password? try entering username and password as support .. also try username and password as user

Anonymous said... @ March 3, 2009 at 6:01 PM

Hi! Prash,
I have a USR USR9115 modem/router. My script starts running and I think that it enters the username and password but then it stops saying Login incorrect.
I have attached below an image of my error msg n also the coding in my .txt file.

What must I change to make this work?

Thanks in advance!
Anjana.

Anonymous said... @ March 3, 2009 at 7:32 PM

Hey,
open http://192.168.1.1 and then type username and password as admin . Are you able to Login?

Prash..

Anonymous said... @ March 3, 2009 at 8:07 PM

Hi! Prash,
Yup! I'm able to login. These are the correct username n password. It seems when the script runs and both the Username n password are entered but at the verification it fails.
Nothing wrong with the username n Password. I thought there might be something wrong with my syntax.

Thanks 4 the quick reply!

Anjana

sanjay said... @ April 5, 2009 at 12:15 PM

I followed the instructions given here and was able to complete 90% of the process. Need help on the last part. Have a DNA-A211-I (wifi 4 port) modem from ITI(bsnl). When I run the scheduled task, it opens a svchost.exe window and the tst window,
>
>BCM96338 ADSL Router
>Login:

and Current state: Waiting for: login [Abort]

How do I skip this stage? Tried various changes but none worked. Assume login is "admin" and password is "hello". What might be the code I need to use?

Prash Babu said... @ April 5, 2009 at 8:40 PM

Use the code given for ut300r2u above.. replace the given password with your password

sanjay said... @ April 6, 2009 at 12:28 AM

Tried but still not working
Is the code correct? (assume password is hello)

192.168.1.1 23
WAIT "Login:"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT "Password:"
SEND "\hello\m"
WAIT "Login:"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT "Password:"
SEND "hello\m"
WAIT
SEND "reboot\m"
WAIT

Prash Babu said... @ April 6, 2009 at 7:18 AM

Well it looks correct.. Could you post a screenshot when it gets stuck and isnt moving further , so i know exactly at which step it is stuck.

sanjay said... @ April 6, 2009 at 10:58 AM

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/2752/rebootj.jpg

Prash Babu said... @ April 6, 2009 at 8:27 PM

Check your code again.. your first line seems to have two "" after Login : instead of one " . Thats why its waiting for Login:" instead of Login:

sanjay said... @ April 7, 2009 at 7:18 AM

I removed the spaces after every "
And now I get this:

BCM96338 ADSL Router
Login: admin
admin
Password: hello

Current State: Waiting for: Login: [Abort]

Prash Babu said... @ April 7, 2009 at 7:42 AM

ok..then try this code

192.168.1.1 23
WAIT "Login:"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT "Password:"
SEND "\hello\m"
WAIT
SEND "reboot\m"
WAIT

i just removed the Login and password line which was repeated twice.. some routers would work only that way.. anyways try this out.

sanjay said... @ April 8, 2009 at 10:00 AM

when you copy the code from above to your txt file in notepad, after each line of code, there is a blank space, just click at the end of the line and hit backspace once. This way, your code will work the way it is supposed to. I faced that problem and tried many things before resolving it. Hope others don't have to spend time resolving it. The star is where the space is in the code, remove it before running it.

Eg:

192.168.1.1 23*
WAIT "Login:"*
SEND "admin\m"*
WAIT "Password:"*
SEND "\hello\m"*
WAIT*
SEND "reboot\m"*
WAIT*

is script.txt placed in the right palce? are you able to access 192.168.1.1 ?? in your command prompt type telnet 192.168.1.1 and post output here..

Anonymous said... @ May 31, 2009 at 12:17 PM

Yes,the script.txt file is placed in the right place i.e in C:\tst10 and yes i'm able to access 192.168.1.1.My output for prompt telnet 192.168.1.1:-
Login:_

Prash while i was tweaking i recently noticed that after i entered the login & pass(admin;admin) correctly the output was "Login successful" and then if I entered "system restart" my modem did REBOOT!!.So if you could just make a script for this then i'll be really grateful to you.

Prash Babu said... @ June 1, 2009 at 1:09 AM

do you have any firewall/software which you think is blocking the telnet scripting tool software to open? the code is correct , the method is also right.. its not supposed to get stuck there , its supposed to start with the logging in procedure..

Anonymous said... @ June 1, 2009 at 4:08 AM

Prash,I have Bitdefender Antivirus Plus v10.for the first time, the Bitdefender firewall did ask me whether to allow or block tst10.exe,i had allowed it.After that i cannot understand what the prob is????? :(

Prash Babu said... @ June 1, 2009 at 7:12 AM

have you also allowed the telnet service to run.. also allowed port 23 , cause telnet uses that port.. try disabling your antivirus/firewall temporarily and see if the problem is solved.. just temporarily , so we know where the exact problem lies..

Karthik said... @ June 1, 2009 at 2:41 PM

Hi prash, you are doing a really good job out here.. well, im trying to write a batch script to reboot my DNA-A211-I (wifi 4 port) modem from ITI(bsnl). - It is set in pppoe mode to connect without a dialer.
I need the script to be used with the 'Jdownloader software' so as to skip the waiting time by changing the ip..

The code as below does not work..

192.168.1.1 23
WAIT "Login:"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT "Password:"
SEND "\madmin\m"
WAIT "Login:"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT "Password:"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT
SEND "reboot\m"
WAIT

my username/password as the same as above.. when i type in this code and click on 'change ip', it says 'reconnection failed'...
Hope you can help me out! thanks in advance..

Prash Babu said... @ June 2, 2009 at 8:44 AM

i have not used the jdownloader software, will try it out later , you can use this software too for the same purpose , as when you reboot modem , ip is automatically changed..

in your command prompt type telnet 192.168.1.1 and then type ? and post output here

Karthik said... @ June 2, 2009 at 12:01 PM

When you said "you can use this software too for the same purpose," were you referring to the codings above?
I am actually required to append these codings above into the Jdownloader program which would execute the script as and when required... (The Jdownloader is primarily a download manager)

With regards to the output, i hope you were asking me the commands that show up once i've entered the username and password of the router in command prompt.

the code you were using previously was correct ( the one with the reboot command ) , i am not sure if the jdownloader software would support this code , as this code is meant only for the telnet scripting tool . Isnt your goal to just get your ip address changed?if so , you can use the telnet scripting tool to do that..

Karthik said... @ June 3, 2009 at 7:37 AM

well, though my aim is to have the ip changed...that needs to be done by the jdownloader software itself 'automatically'... not sure how i can integrate the telnet tool into this ... here's how it needs to work..

- i load the URL's for couple of files that need to be downloaded from a site, say rapidshare.. for eg,
- the jdownloader starts downloading the first file (while placing the others in queue)
-once the 1st file is over, you need to usually wait for the 2nd file to download.. but the software 'skips' this step by having the ip changed (by executing the script that we type in..)
- download of the 2nd file is attempted automatically once the new ip is obtained..
- the same thing is repeated for successive files.
hope it is clear!

i use the home500 plan with night unlimited.. and hence this kind of 'automatic resetting' would be convenient for the download..

is the telnet tool capable of doing so... for the purpose stated above.. am not sure..
kindly assist.. thanks

Prash Babu said... @ June 3, 2009 at 8:49 AM

oh ok got it , well the telnet tool can get you a new ip , but it wont know when the first file has finished downloading , i will look more into the jdownloader software and let you know..

Hello thanks for the Tip on rebooting my ADSL Modem.

I used the following Script, which reboots my modem fine:

192.168.1.1 23
WAIT "Login"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT "Password"
SEND "\madmin\m"
WAIT "Login"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT "Password"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT
SEND "reboot\m"
WAIT

The only problem I'm having is that whenever the script is executed it does not close after the modem reboot.

Do you have any solution

Regards

Morris

@karthik
sorry i was out of town , do mention how you fixed it so others could benefit..
@generljomo
it should close the windows by itsefl usually.. but you could try adding the following line to the script and then try

SEND "exit\m"

if the above line doesnt work , try this line

SEND "quit\m"

karthik said... @ June 7, 2009 at 11:07 PM

Hi there, thanks for writing this guide.

Actually I consulted a lot of guides and found that none of them worked. I kept tweaking until it worked. The script I am using at present is:

192.168.1.1 23
WAIT "Login:"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT "Password:"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT
SEND "system restart\m"
WAIT
SEND "exit\m"

It waits for some ten seconds and then Windows gives the message that a network cable has disconnected, and the modem reboots. Only problem is that often, after it reboots, Windows gives the message that this connection has limited or no connectivity. This kind of problem happens only if I reboot the modem with the script. Any suggestions?

Prash Babu said... @ June 8, 2009 at 10:01 PM

try setting up static ip, that should fix it..

Karthik said... @ June 11, 2009 at 9:58 AM

when i schedule the task, telnet opens n executes
.bat file but stops after logging in.
I have to manually press enter key to reboot it...
please help me.

@raj
im not sure about that , cause i've not tried running it on those versions , but its worth a try..
@sanjayhk
i was keen on doing it too , but its pretty risky and could brick your modem . Better to stick with the current firmware

but this doesn't mean its connecting the broadband. it just restarts the router. if u select PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) instead of the default Bridging in the Connection type then u have to enter ur user id and password in the router and u are always connected. if u use Bridging then u have to dial from the desktop. ur script doesn't dial it just reboots. so how can ur script start broadband connection at 2 am and terminate at 8am.. plz send me detail at an20up@gmail.com

because i have to wake everyday at 2 am to connect the broadband. i don't want to use the PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) method because it will keep me always online and huge bill will come at the end of month

hi, i'm having a problem similar to what shatrughan had. i had ut300r2u and script worked. but now i changed my modem(for wifi)
MODEM: nokia siemens 1600
and none of the scripts work.
but i can reboot using command prompt
C:\documents and settings\user>telnet
open 192.168.1.1
login:admin(and i press enter)
password:admin(and i press enter)
it displays modem menu where each menu is numbered(13. Save and Reboot). so i type 13 and press enter and it asks for confirmation(1:yes, 2:no) and i type 1 and press enter and it successfully reboots.

the telnet script
192.168.1.1 23
WAIT "Login"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT "Password"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT ""
SEND "Save and Reboot\m"

takes me till the
Current status: waiting for:
and if i press enter it displays the menu and it reboots if i manually type 13(and press enter) followed by 1(and press enter).

So could u provide a script that will work for me. i think automating the "press enter" key will do the trick. i tried different commands(WAIT, WAIT "", WAIT ">",WAIT "#" and even the one suggested in this site http://www.computing.net/answers/programming/need-help-with-dos-batch-file-/12751.html) but failed. so please help

Alternatively download package from -

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?s=2b819c5b0edb59765f0b24e36694721f&act=Attach&type=post&id=360763

and paste the code given below in the reboot.txt file.

192.168.1.1 23
WAIT "login:"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT "password:"
SEND "admin\m"
SEND "reboot\m"
SEND "exit\m"

It worked for me so should also work for all MTNL, T-KD 318-EUI modems.

Rajeev Dayal.

Hi
my adsl modem is d-link , model : DSL-2540U
could any body kindly hlp me to find correct script to reboot it?
my shell prompt is > , so i run this :

192.168.1.1
WAIT "Login:"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT "Password:"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT ">"
SEND "rebbot\m"
WAIT ">"
it seems \m doesnt work , becaouse in "login and pass " process i have 3 admin word , then in wait ">" I dont have any > in prompt , so when i do enter key , the prompt shows > then it works means reboots.
how can i correct \m in script ?and force the modem to accept \m ?

Prash Babu said... @ September 30, 2010 at 10:22 PM

what do you mean by 3 admin word?? could you post a screenshot where the gets stuck for better understanding..

Hamid said... @ October 1, 2010 at 5:01 PM

Hi , thx to answer , i was wait

------------------------------------------
screenshot 1 is about your instructions to initials of build and running script .
http://www.4shared.com/photo/SHv82313/1_online.html
------------------------------------------
2 is when i try to run it , you can see 3 admin word
http://www.4shared.com/photo/RTM7jOL8/2_online.html
------------------------------------------
3 is after running , when i push enter key , so in this time it work correctly . notice in knew the command of SEND "system restart\m" is not correct on my adsl , and the correct command on my adsl is SEND "reboot\m" , i exchange it to incorrect command to avoiding reboot of my adsl when i try to take screenshot for you .

http://www.4shared.com/photo/1CgSfWH7/3_online.html

-------------------------------------------
the problem as shown in screenshot 2 , is i must push enter key manually after it get pssword correctly , it seems doesnt take \m in this command SEND "admin\m" , and doesnt go to shell prompt ">" and waiting for >
-----
when i telnet to 192.168.1.1 , after giving passsword and push enter key , i have the > as shellpromt .
thx again

Hey Prash,

I am using BCM96338 ADSL Router

I can reboot my modem if i run the cmd and use the telnet command. However, If i use bat file I can't send command to command line. It freezes after login appears. Even if I send command before wait line it doesnt work.

I am using the windows 7 operating system and i activated telnet client.

thanks in advance

Now i'm able to login into the modem with the help of the script but i dono the command to reboot the modem.. i dono how to find it out also..

Prash Babu said... @ May 29, 2011 at 12:16 AM

Sorry for the late reply.. i presume your trying this via telnet?post a screenshot where your getting stuck. Typically if you type a '?' (without single quotes) you will get to know the command for reboot etc, in some modems you could try typing help.
Prashanth..

Somo said... @ May 29, 2011 at 11:03 AM

Hey Prash,
yea.. i'm using telnet itself... here are the screenshots... one is a shot of the help commands and the other of the successful login....

found this page after hours of googling for a solution to autoreboot modem if network goes down. have a d-link bcm96338 modem, and tst10 wouldn't proceed past entering the password, ever waiting for > to come. eventually i found a simple and elegant solution: go to the router settings and make the password blank. problem solved, from now on the modem eagerly gulps "\m" for a password and everything works.

If you have GUI, try using wget for windows with below url :-

$ wget --output-document=/dev/null --user="admin" --password="" "http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_file=diag.htm&todo=reboot"

I'm trying to get this to work with a Netcomm 882 router.
The intial login is

cdcs login:

No matter what combination I use, it never enters the username. Says waiting the whole time. Ideas?

Thanks Prash,

This really works, off course there will be always some minor tweaks, which i guess anyone who is attempting to execute a batch file should be able to easily accomplish.
