A lot of ubuntu users have problems configuring wireless in hardy , it seems to be tougher than usual.Seemed to be easier in gutsy.Almost everybody who upgraded seems to be having problems. And a lot of them have a problem with Broadcom wireless driver. Some are just so lucky, it works without any problem, no configuration or drivers needed at all.The first thing you could try is the Restricted Drivers, Make sure they are enabled in System->Administration->Restricted Drivers Manager .After which you would probably need to reboot.
Otherwise type in the following two commands and then try restricted drivers
sudo dpkg -i bcm43xx*

wget http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/b/bcm43xx-fwcutter/bcm43xx-fwcutter_006-3_i386.deb

If that doesnt do the trick, you could try the following instructions i found in the ubuntuforums. Its been posted by a new users and i must say he's done a wonderful job writing the guide. CLICK HERE to go to the tutorial, i hope it works for you!!
