Firstly, i would like to apologize for not posting anything since almost a month. There have been a lot of reasons for this, i had a project to complete, i fell sick in between and the most important thing which kept me out was BSNL.I had no internet for around 2 weeks thanks to them which is why i had limited access to the internet hence i could not update the site.
During this 2 1/2 weeks i began to wonder is it really worth taking BSNL connection.I mean ofcourse they do have really attractive plans and i frankly speaking haven't faced any situation like this ever since i've subscribed to dataone so many years back. The problem i had is that BSNL suspended my account.I came to know this when i tried accessing the internet one morning and i get "Authentication Failure" in the modem's status page.I thought it would be some temporary error and waited till the evening after which i called the BSNL help line 1800 424 1600.The guy at the other end said "Sir, there is some problem in your area, you should get your connection working by tomorrow evening".I said "Tomorrow Evening????????????????".And he went on saying "Thank you Sir, have a nice day".So i thought i would wait till then and use my wifi connection till then.
The next morning, when i went for a walk, on my way i spoke to a neighbour of mine and we had a long discussion on a lot of things and then it came to BSNL and he claimed that his BSNL is working. So i rushed home immediately to see that hey it doesnt work!!!So i called them up again and asked them , this time they told me to perform some commands like ping 192.168.1.1 ,ipconfig etc etc.The guy wanted me to reset my modem and configure it again, i was dead sure that there was no problem at my end.But still the problem remained. He said "Sir, i have filed a complaint, your broadband should work within 24 hours".And before i could say "Another day??", he said "Thank You Sir, have a ...........blah blah blah".That evening i had gone to a friend's place and thought why not check out my portal usage and see how much i've used(i do that sometimes, very rarely though).I then got an error message saying "Your account has been suspended".
The next day i called them up again and before they told me to ping and ipconfig i told them that i have done this already. Then they put me on hold(for about 15 min, REALLY FRUSTRATING!!!) and they end up saying "Sir, You havent paid your broadband bill as a result we have disabled your account.I then told them "How can this be??" as my bills get paid automatically through ECS and the payment was also mentioned in my bank statement. The guy then said "Sir , you would have to go to the nearest exchange and speak to the concerned department".Well what else could i say, so i went there next day .As usual they said "Sir we would have to verify this with another department , once verified we will enable your account."I then asked" How long will this take?".He said "Definetly within 48 hours Sir".
HELL!!Another 48 hours.Well as usual, nothing happened 48 hours passed by and no sign of internet.I then spoke to the bsnl help line and they told me to call the bill enquiry no.I did that, but nobody picks up the stupid phone!!!Another day gone there.Next day , Same help line, the guy says "Sir, we cannot do anything at our end, you would have to go to this office"And he gives the address of some other office.I went there the next day.The person who i was supposed to meet wasnt there, and i spoke to some Junior Engineer(Looked like a line man to me).I had a tough time talking with the guy as he didnt understand what i said and i didnt either.Language problem you see!!.Well he came to my house saying that there is some problem at your end, i was so sure that there wasnt any, but he just had to come.So he came, checked everything and said "Sir, i think there is some server problem at our end i will check it by tomorrow evening , it should be alright by then".The story doesnt end here :-) , tomorrow evening and no signs of internet.
The junior engineer guy stopped answering my calls too!!So then i took rest for 2 days.Well not because i wanted to , because of the Ganesha festival. Then the next day i had gone to the office and spoken to the right person( the person who i couldnt speak to last time). He was there luckily. The guy was very polite and understood exactly what the problem was.I showed him the bank statement proof and he said "Sir, your internet should work by tomorrow evening".I reminded him over and over again and pleaded. And it was a miracle, I actually had my internet working by next evening.I had totally lost hope and never really expected it to work.
Infact i was planning on changing to Airtel ( which has really good service.I believe they would even come on a sunday to setup a new connection) but i had already paid BSNL for the full year.
Anyways all is well now, but the question is , is it really worth taking BSNL??Its cheap, it works fine but once your in trouble, YOU ARE IN BIG TROUBLE!!...As long as it works, its fine!!
So that was my story as to why i had limited access to the internet.Hope i needn't meet the junior engineer nor call the help desk again!!!!!!!

hi Prakash,
i also faced the same issue with BSNL.i used to call everyday the customer care persons and they will tell it will be working tomorrow.
everyday they will tell the same thing, i was so frustated.
Little late here but,
I have Airtel i pay Rs. 500 a month for 1GB 2mbps (no night unltd no nothing).
BSNL would give me 2.5 gb + night unltd.
BUT
Airtel provides guarantee that if they don't fix ur problem in 1 day thay will pay you Rs.100 in the next bill!!
But in reality (in my area at least) they come and fix the net in less than 2 hrs (provided i call between 10am-4pm)!! And this includes a on-the-spot modem replacement if it is at fault (has happened to me).
In the last 3 yrs i have had to call airtel maybe 3-4 times (twice they have replaced the modem :( ) but every time they came on that very day.
Now that is customer service.
Also immediately on registering a complaint they send an SMS to my mobile (non airtel) saying the exact time (24 hrs after my call) by when they will fix my connection with a complaint no.
