Opera recently released its new version the opera 9.6.The new version has a few major improvements which aim at making your browsing experience all the more better. The browsing speed too has considerably increased. With the new opera 9.6 you would be able to notice that pages would load much more faster. The major plus point of opera is its browsing speed.Opera is famous for providing the fastest browsing speed compared to many other browsers like IE,firefox etc. Opera manages to load the pages a lot more faster. So here's whats new :
Firstly, there isnt much change in the looks. Its the same interface with the same speed dial background as the blank page which i truly like.I use the speed dial very often as it helps you get to web pages a lot faster compared to search for the address or typing part of the address and then opening a webpage. Most of use have a regular set of web pages we visit regularly and the speed dial definetly solves the purpose.
The new major improvement that opera 9.6 comes with is the Opera Link. The opera link is a wonderful feature which i think is truly necessary for people who use multiple machines at home. What it does is , it synchronizes all your custom search engines, history etc. So if you visited a certain website using computer A , when you go back to computer B you would find it already listed either under history or when you start typing the website. This is a very useful feature as i find it usually very difficult to synchronize.Especially if you liked a particular webpage and want to open it on the other pc, copy pasting the link etc is a major hassle, or even searching for the page from scratch in the other computer is a head ache.So this makes it a lot simpler and i think this is the coolest improvement for this release.
Other improvements include Feed Preview. This helps you see the feed content of a particular feed before you subscribe to it.This can be very useful to people who use RSS feeds regularly.I must say opera has a really good feed manager. You can even bookmark feeds which makes it easier to open them the next time.
Also another important thing is the improvement in speed which opera claims to do with every version. It just seems to be faster by the version.
The inbuilt opera mail has some improvements as well.A few being Low bandwidth mode which reduces data downloads so that you can access your mail a lot more faster. It can be enabled in your account properties.Another new feature is the Follow Thread feature which helps you stay up to date with a certain thread. So all new emails related to that would appear under that thread making it easier to find the thread and easier to follow it up.Also another similar feature is the Ignore Thread which prevents any email coming from any topic that you are not interested in to go to your inbox as unread mail.
Despite all these improvements as they say nothing is perfect.I still find a few things in opera which i personally dont like.First thing being if you click on the close button of a window by mistake, there is no warning saying that you are about to close so many tabs or so many windows etc you just loose it by default which is sometimes really frustrating.Another thing i wished opera had by default is an status bar at the bottom which you know shows updates like "Transferring from.." or "Waiting for..." or "Read...." .This gives an idea on whether the remote website is responding or not. Also in the case of any hyperlink you normally see it in the status bar for other browsers which is more convenient compared to how opera displays it.Another Small but irritating problem is when you click on the opera icon you expect opera to open a new window but opera launches a new tab if opera already exists.
The opera 9.6 is indeed a major improvement for those of you who find the above features useful. You can definetly upgrade for the speed improvement atleast :D .
