The new ubuntu is here and there is everything to be happy for.The new ubuntu has quite a lot of changes and improvements in their GUI and features.Especially with the network manager, so it could get confusing for some.Back to the wireless issues.Most laptops which have inbuilt wireless now a days require the broadcom bcm xxxx drivers to function.ALthough some have atheros,realtek etc. Most of them need the broadcom drivers.Now previously it used to be a bit confusing to get broadcom wifi hardware to work it required ndiswrapper and you know typing a lot of commands etc etc etc . Quite a pain , cause if you go wrong in pointing out to the right *.inf file there's another procedure for it.Luckily now its Really really really simple to configure broadcom wifi on your laptop with ubuntu intrepid ibex.I mean your just a click away , all you need to do is just activate your drivers via a GUI.No command typing etc..So here's how you do it :
All this while i had to follow the ndiswrapper way to get broadcom to work.So the easy way out is here :

Step 1 : Go to System->Administration->Hardware Drivers

Step 2 : Then your ubuntu should start scanning and looking for available drivers.
Step 3 : Once thats done your computer should show you the broadcom STA wireless driver

Step 4 : Now all you need to do is select broadcom and click on the Activate Button , a green symbol would be shown next to broadcom and thats it.Its done, no rebooting nothing!!!

Step 5 : Click on the network symbol on the right hand top corner and you should see a drop down menu of all the available Wireless networks .

Step 6 : Choose your wifi network and if your network has DHCP server on , then you should be connected to it automatically.

When I first installed Ibex, the broadcom driver wasn't showing up in the list. Was able to get it working using the method in the link below:

When I go to the Hardware Drivers window, it just says "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system." and there's nothing in the boxes below... now what? dax702 AT gmail DOT com

If it isn't listed under hardware drivers. Then you could try following this https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx/Feisty
