Running computers at the correct temperature plays a very important role.Especially if you have a high end system with a high end graphics card and other hardware which generates a lot of heat, it is always adviced to have good cooling atleast 2 or 3 Fans to bring down the CPU temperature.The CPU temperature has a direct effect on the performance of the CPU which in turn affects the performance of a computer.So its always important to ensure adequate cooling.Whenever you feel that the temperature of your CPU is high, and you feel your computer is acting a bit weird and getting stuck or freezes a lot of times, then its high time you get a good fan and place it inside your pc cabinet at the specific place alloted.
Once you do that, you would definetly be able to notice the difference.On an average anything beyond 80 Degrees is dangerous and could affect your CPU performance.Typically the range is between 45 - 75 degrees.Anything beyond that certainly needs cooling to improve performance and life span of the cpu.
There are many ways to find out the temperature of your CPU.One way to find out is from your System BIOS.It would be mentioned there.In linux, its super easy , just installing an application can help you find out an approximate value of your CPU temperature.So here's how you go about doing it :
Step 1 : Go to the Terminal(Applications->Accessories->Terminal)
Step 2 : Now type sudo apt-get install acpi to install the app
Step 3 : Once the installation is done, Type acpi -t to find out the temperature of your cpu
You should see something like this
