It is a common issue for most ADSL subscribers that we find our internet connections disconnecting all the time . Now this can get very irritating as it could stop downloads , interrupt web browsing etc . Now most of these things are inter related . Let me explain . Your frequent disconnections is mostly due to Poor SNR value , which could be the reason for bad internet speeds. So its definetly understood that you need to have a Good SNR value , this is the base for a good connection . So here are the ways by which your SNR can be increased :

Before we get to that , here is a small table as to how SNR affects disconnections and which is an apt SNR value

SNR Values

1) <10 - Very Poor SNR , Frequent Disconnections will occur
2) Between 10 and 15 - Average SNR , very less Disconnections
3) Above 15 - Good SNR , Shouldnt Be any Disconnections

Now its clear that if you have an SNR which is around 20 its more than enough for a stable connection . Then you shouldnt worry . Although if you have very Less SNR and you face frequent Disconnections then here are your options :

1) Get Your Telephone Setup Correct - This is a very important step and you should get this right . YOU NEED TO HAVE A SPLITTER. Now ensure that the connections are something like in this diagram.

If you look carefully , the Telephone line coming to your house is FIRST going to your Splitter.This is how it should be . DO NOT CONNECT any telephones before the splitter. Now the splitter provides 2 outputs , 1 for the ADSL modem and the other for your telephones . Now you have to connect all your telephones AFTER THE SPLITTER using the telephone out port from the splitter. YOu may use extensions to connect all telephones to that one Telephone out port of the splitter.

2)Enable G.DMT - This is another way which does prove to increase SNR in a way . So here's how you do it :
Step 1 : Go to http://192.168.1.1 in your web browser
Step 2 : Enter username and password as admin ( or utstar as username for some routers)

Step 3 : Go to Advanced Setup->DSL
Step 4 : You should now see a page similar to this . THen ensure that G.DMT Enabled is CHECKED
Step 5 : Click on SAVE/APPLY and you should have a better connection now as your SNR should have increased.

To CHECK SNR
Step 1 : Go to http://192.168.1.1 in your web browser
Step 2 : Enter username and password as admin ( or utstar as username for some routers)
Step 3 : Go to Device Info->Statistics->ADSL

Hope This solves Your Disconnection Issue!!
