If you've been following the ubuntuforums lately , i'm sure you'd probably be noticing a lot of downtimes . Especially since last week where there have been a lot of maintainence work performed by the ubuntuforums administrator ubuntugeek and his team . Three cheers to them for the fabulous work they are doing . I mean handling and maintaining a huge forum like this which has one of the biggest databases of millions of rows and columns is no joke!!!I mean the larger the database size , the difficult it is to maintain . As there would be a lot of corrupt data in between . The major reason why this is happening is because of the large number of queries which suddenly crashed the main database server . I believe there were over 2000 queries which were left unprocessed causing the main server to crash.
Ubuntuforums has a thread table of over 1million rows and a post table of about 6.5million rows . Now imagine how hard it would be for them to actually maintain such a huge database. So currently due to hardware failures and the crashed state of the main server , the ubuntuforums is using the SLAVE feature so when there are too many requests or queries to be processed at a time , part of these requests would go to the SLAVE server , thus reducing the load of the main server. Also as a result of all this the THANKYOU feature and the SOLVED POSTS feature has been DISABLED temporarily .
SO thats the current update on ubuntuforums . You may not be able to access ubuntuforums at certain times as they are working hard to get things back to normal . So lets hope things get fixed soon!!!For more information on this CLICK HERE
