Probably one of the best and most useful feature under the Google labs for Gmail , The New Multiple Inboxes feature is fantastic!!Its something very useful especially if you are a person who gets a lot of email . You could use this to organize your emails in a much much better way . Like read all important emails first or read emails from a particular person etc etc . The title could be a little misleading you dont exactly get multiple inboxes , its just multiple panels based on the one inbox you have . Each panel will show you mails based on a criteria you wish . So here's more on this new feature from Gmail :
Here's how my Current GMail page looks
It has various panels wherein my blog related mails are in one pane , private mail in another, unread mail in another etc etc . You could also arrange mails like from a specific sender or mails arriving after a particular date and lots of other criterias can be set.
So here's how you activate this feature :
Step 1 : Click on the Settings BUtton on the top right corner of your GMail page
Step 2 : Then click on Labs
Step 3 : Look for the Multiple Inboxes feature , its way down the page
Step 4 : Select Enable and Click on Save Changes
Step 5 : Once you do that you should see a Multiple Inboxes Tab (Next to Labs)
Step 6 : Now under Pane 0 , Pane 1 etc you could enter the required parameters so that you get mails based on that criteria on pane 0 , pane 1 etc .(Discussed in detail later in this post )
Step 7 : Once done with entering the appropriate parameters Click on Save Changes and your good to go.
Note : You also have options to set no of conversations per page , 9 is the default . You can set it to whatever number you wish. YOu can also decide the placement of the Panel . Above, below or to the right. You dont need to use all the 5 panels . Use how many ever you wish.
SOME COMMON PARAMETERS YOU COULD USE TO BETTER ORGANIZE YOUR EMAILS
1) A Panel with all messages from a particular sender, enter " from : sendername " (quotes not required) . Eg : - from : prashanth@prash-babu.com
2) A Panel with all messages sent to a particular email account, enter " to : toaddress " (quotes not required) . Eg : - to : prashanth@prash-babu.com
3) A Panel with all messages after a particular date , enter " after : year/month/date" (quotes not required) . Eg : - after : 2008/1/24
4) A Panel with all messages before a particular date , enter " before : year/month/date" (quotes not required) . Eg : - before : 2008/1/24
