THis is another common problem in ubuntuforums . A lot of people somehow get ubuntu to recognize their wireless card but still arent able to connect to wifi networks around . Using the iwlist command given "NO SCAN RESULTS" as the output . Here's how you fix this :

NO SCAN RESULTS is not technically an ERROR . But if you have wifi networks around and you still see this output , then i guess its an ERROR . Ubuntu has the iwlist scan command which helps you look for wifi networks around you .Usually if the iwlist scan command gives you the NO SCAN RESULTS output , it means that your wifi card has been recognized . Now thats some good news . But still , there is not point unless it is able to recognize wifi networks around you. If you are sure that you are wifi networks around and you still see an output like the one below , then here's a possibility

prash@prash-laptop:~$ sudo iwlist scanning
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.

wifi0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

wlan1 No scan results

eth1 Interface doesn't support scanning.

MOst computers be it desktops or laptops have a switch for their wifi cards , these switches are like the ON-OFF switches . So do check that the switch on your wireless card is SET to ON . Then try the above command again and you should see wifi networks around you .

Here are a few screenshots of the wireless switch i am talking about :

This is a very common issue and can be very frustrating especially when you have done so much to get ubuntu to recognize your wireless card only to realize later that you just forgot to TURN IT ON :)
