One of the members of the ubuntuforums had performed a speed comparsion test between nfs, samba and ssh . I always wanted to compare these three services to see which one among them is the fastest . I guess its pretty obvious that SSH is the slowest here as data is encrypted . This test was originally performed by ^_Pepe_^ of ubuntuforums . All credit goes to him . I'm posting the screenshots of his tests here as you would need an account in ubuntuforums to view the screenshots :

HIS SETUP :

Client: Medion Akoya Mini, Wifi connected to a Linksys 160N router. WEP encription, 54Mbps connection.

Server: P4, 2,66 Ghz, 1GB RAM, 24x7 torrent and BOINC dedicated. LAN connected via 100 Mbps connection to the router.

So here are the screenshots . NFS is the winner , followed by samba and then SSH.

1)NFS

2)SAMBA

3)SSH
