This tutorial should help you configure a dial up internet connection in the newer ubuntu versions which has the new network manager . If you have noticed the new network manager does not have the DIAL UP option , so configuring dial up is not straight forward .So here's how it is done :

The following screenshot below would show you that the new network manager does not support Dial up as it has no Dial up option

Whereas the old network manager did support Dial up Connection .

HOW TO CONFIGURE
So there are two ways of doing , one way is to install the old network manager and then configure . This is a bit of a round about and could sometimes screw up your current networking setup . The easier way is to install Gnome PPP . So here's how you do that :

Step 1 : Go to the Terminal(Applications->Accessories->Terminal) and type sudo apt-get install gnome-ppp

Step 2 : This would install gnome-ppp , now launch gnome-ppp by going to Applications->Internet->Gnome PPP
Step 3 : This is the screen you would see when you launch gnome PPP , it has the basic fields like username ,password and phone number to dial like any other dialer

Step 4 : Then incase you need to configure some advanced settings depending on your Dial up ISP then click on SETUP and you should see a page like this

Step 5 : Thats it , once everything is configured just hit the CONNECT button and you should be connected!!

I suppose this is for dial up for internet when you dial phone nos from your modem. Do you have any program for dial-up for broadband ? I use Linux Mint (within Windows) and connect using "pon dsl-provider" in terminal. Is there any program that I can configure and place on the desktop (as a short-cut) and click to dial and connect. I don't mind using terminal but the habit of "just click and open"-ease of Windows is hard to give up ! Thank you.
