Approx 2 weeks to go and ubuntu hardy heron 8.04 will release and almost everybody would wonder "Should i upgrade to hardy or not?".Well hardy is an LTS version and it definetly has a lot of improvements and a lot of new features. But considering that its just going to release , there will be a lot of bugs and compatibility issues sometimes.Frankly speaking, i can still find a few gutsy bugs which are not resolved yet.So the best thing to do is try the live cd or install hardy in vmware etc and make sure that the programs you need are working fine , if they do then you can definetly upgrade to hardy .
I've tested it out and i have found that its a great OS, it has a lot of new features, improved GUI etc. It's slowly becoming easier and easier to use, it just gets better!!But i have noticed a few bugs and also heard of many more in the forums, few related to wireless networking, some with sound etc. So it would be better to test all of this compatibility issues with a live cd or through vmware and make sure..If everything seems OK, then go for it!!
The whole idea of me posting this is "not to be in a hurry", i find most people upgrading as soon as the beta version arrives and using it as their main OS, and post threads saying things are not working, well if it doesnt the best thing to do is file a bug, But make sure everything is OK before shifting completely.
Im sure its a pain for most of us to shift to another OS, i mean all the cron tasks, settings, programs etc. Oh yea, The UPGRADE is there, but i always prefer a clean install..
So be wise and then shift!!
