I had mentioned in an earlier tutorial on some of the uses of installing an Antivirus in ubuntu when it is networked with windows machines and how ubuntu can be a life saver to windows machines :) . Now in the previous tutorial we had used AVG antivirus which was completely command line . Now if you prefer an antivirus with GUI then you should give ClamAV a try . It's a really piece of software , very light on resources. Here's how you install it :
Step 1 : Go to the Terminal ( Applications->Accessories->Terminal ) and type sudo apt-get install clamav clamav-daemon clamav-freshclam
Step 2 : After the installation is done , go to THIS LINK and download the deb file
Step 3 : Then install the deb file
Step 4 : You can now launch Clamav by going to Applications->Accessories->Virus Scanner
Step 5 : NOw check for updates as usual , this is under the HELP menu
Step 6 : Here's a screenshot of it doing a virus scan.
Thats about it, you should have clamav working by now . Hope it helps in driving away some viruses :)
