The Canonical Group Has come out with a new software/service called ubuntuone , it is a complete copy of dropbox only difference it works only on ubuntu and only ubuntu 9.04 onwards , atleast thats what the site says!!I had requested for an invitation to try out ubuntuone and received an invite few weeks later . Here's more on ubuntuone :

Ubuntuone as i mentioned earlier is just like dropbox , there is nothing new to it or more to it than what dropbox offers . I was expecting something different or something new in ubuntuone but found none . So similar to what dropbox does , ubuntuone basically helps in synchronizing files between 2 or more ubuntu machines . They could be your own machines or even files can be synced to your friends/relatives machines . So how does this help? As mentioned in my dropbox tutorial , you could easily share files with your friends/relatives , you could even use this for backup . But the disadvantage with ubuntu one is that it doesnt allow you to make a public link unlike in dropbox where once you upload a file you could make a public link of it and share that link with whoever you wish and they could easily download that file with no limitations whatsoever . So there again ubuntuone lags behind . Also i found a few bugs in the web interface part of ubuntuone , it sometimes didnt show sub folders etc.

Apart from that ubuntuone does the basic thing right , just like dropbox . But i would recommend dropbox anyday as it has a much better interface and it works cross platform and it offers the same 2gb FREE plan.

HOW TO INSTALL
Here's a small guide on how to install ubuntuone :

Step 1 : Firstly , visit this link and Subscribe to one of the plans , the 2gb plan is FREE.Then you would asked to provide your launchpad account details. If you dont have a launchpad account you could always create one for FREE.Now you need to wait for a few weeks for you to get your invite!!

Step 2 : Once you get your ubuntu invite , just go to the HOMEPAGE and click on Login and login with the launchpad account details you used in step 1

Step 3 : NOw go to Support and install ubuntuone to your computer by downloading the package

Step 4 : Now install the package to your ubuntu machine, the following screenshots are self explanatory

Step 5 : THats it , now you should see a ubuntuone icon on the top right which would open the ubuntuone folder and a web interface .

Step 6 : You could invite others to ubuntuone and even share a specific folder with them , so that whatever you put in that folder would be synced to their machines as well.
