This tutorial would help you configure your AIRTEL MTNL BSNL internet connection in ubuntu . If you didn't use any dialer to connect to the internet in windows and your internet worked by just switching on your modem in ubuntu , then you dont need to follow this tutorial .This tutorial is for those users who had used a Dialer to connect to the internet in windows . SO here's how you do it :

Step 1 : Ensure that you are able to access http://192.168.1.1 . If not , go to the Terminal(Applications->Accessories->Terminal) and type sudo dhclient eth0
Step 2 : Now to create the Dialer like you had in Windows , go to System->Preferences->Network Connections

Step 3 : Then , go to the DSL tab
Step 4 : Now click on ADD button

Step 5 : NOw enter your AIRTEL MTNL or BSNL username and password . Under service you could enter whatever you wish like BSNL. You can even change the connection name to BSNL on top. Also CHECK Connect Automatically

Step 6 : Click on Apply and close All windows

TO CONNECT AND DISCONNECT THE INTERNET

To connect to the internet all you need to do is select BSNL from the List of available connections when you click on the networking icon ( 2 small monitors attached ) on the top right bar .

To disconnect from the internet all you need to do is select Auth eth0 from the same list.
